AlphaFeed setup guide

From installation to live charts in about fifteen minutes.

Before you start

  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, with a few GB of free disk space for history.
  • A broker data API account: Zerodha Kite Connect or Shoonya (Finvasia).
  • AmiBroker, MetaStock or Advanced GET installed.

1. Install

Download the installer from the download page and run it. No administrator rights are needed. If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway.

2. Connect your broker

The first start opens a setup window.

Zerodha Kite Connect 1. Go to developers.kite.trade and create a new Kite Connect app (it includes historical and live data). 2. Set the redirect URL to http://127.0.0.1:5000/login. 3. Copy the app's API key and API secret into AlphaFeed.

Shoonya (Finvasia) — enter your user ID, password, TOTP secret, vendor code and API key.

You can save several broker accounts under Tools → Settings → Brokers and switch between them with the broker drop-down.

3. Log in each trading day

Press the red Login button (or Feed → Login to broker) and log in on your broker's page; AlphaFeed picks up the session by itself. Broker sessions end at about 6 AM, so the button turns red again the next day. AlphaFeed reminds you before the market opens.

4. Choose your charting program

Open Tools → Settings → Charting software.

Program What to do
AmiBroker Tick Feed data to AmiBroker. AlphaFeed attaches when AmiBroker is open and can open it for you. For 1-second charts (Pro) set the AmiBroker database base interval to 1 second.
MetaStock Tick it, then open the data folder AlphaFeed shows in MetaStock — one folder per timeframe.
Advanced GET Same as MetaStock, with its own folder.

Tick Start it automatically with AlphaFeed to have the program opened for you.

5. Pick symbols

Choose a feed (Equity, Futures, Options, Indices, Commodity or Currency), tick the scrips you want and click Add selected. Or use Tools → Index watch lists to add NIFTY 50, NIFTY 500, NIFTY Alpha 50 or broader-market lists in one step. History downloads automatically: 5 years of 1-minute data with Standard, 10 years with Pro, where your broker provides it.

6. Activate your licence

Live broker data needs a licence key. Open Help → Licence / Activate, paste the key and click Activate (internet needed). AlphaFeed checks the licence with our server and keeps working for up to 7 days without internet. Without internet at all, use Offline activation and the customer portal.

7. Several PCs (Pro)

On the main PC: Tools → Settings → Multi-PC → Share feed with my other PCs, then generate a key. On each other PC: Tools → Settings → Brokers → Add "AlphaFeed master PC" and enter the main PC's address and key. The number of extra PCs depends on your plan.

1-second data (Pro)

Brokers stream live ticks but generally do not provide 1-second history, so AlphaFeed Pro records 1-second bars itself while it runs. - Start AlphaFeed before 09:15 and keep it running through the session for an unbroken 1-second chart. - If the PC was off, AlphaFeed started late or the internet dropped, those minutes are filled with 1-minute bars, so the 1-second chart shows minute bars for that stretch. Recorded seconds are never overwritten. - Your other PCs (Pro multi-PC) copy the recorded seconds from the main PC.

Keeping data healthy

  • The Data up to column shows how current each symbol is.
  • The gap watchdog fills missing minutes automatically; Feed → Fill data gaps now runs it on demand.
  • Bonus and split adjustments are applied automatically.
  • A nightly backup runs after market hours; Tools → Restore a backup brings one back.
